Writing your first letters

Usborne Wipe-Clean Alphabet Book
Each page of this book is dedicated to 1, occasionally 2, letters of the alphabet, including capital and lower-case. Few words are given to recognize letter sounds. The letters have numbered steps which have really helped my son who used to write some letters backwards due to poor recognition of the stroke order. Establishing the strong stroke order habit solved the “backward letter” problem.
Melissa and Doug Alphabet and Number Stamps
This is a great value set that will last for a while – it includes storage case, upper and lower case letters, numbers, punctuation signs, ink pad, AND 25-page activity book to put it into action. We used these great stamps to create memory cards and greeting cards, incorporate words into our art projects, even to start our own stories and “publish” our own little books. The possibilities are endless!
Handwriting Without Tears Slate & Chalk Set
We saw this wonderful set used at our pre-school and we got one to practice at home. Using the sides of the slate really helps guide the little hands into proper writing. Plus writing with chalk and then extra practice erasing your letter with a finger-sized sponge dipped in water is not only extra practice, but feels like play and not work.
Kumon Triangular Pencils for Grip development (black)
Kumon Triangular Pencils for Grip development (colored)
We love these Kumon pencils. They helped us develop right pencil grip and we still use them. They do need a larger sharpener, and we ordered several from Kumon as well. There are multiple other versions of such pencils but we loved the wood, rich graphite, length and just everything about these specific pencils that are made in Japan.
Pencil Grip Helpers
Our 1st grade friend’s OT used these to help correct the pencil grip. It did make a difference.
Easy Peasy Alphabet Handwriting Workbook
Uniquely designed workbook with special shading and lines really helps kids to get the letter formation and spacing down. Each letter has 2 pages of tracing and 1 page of writing for reinforcing what was learned.
Big Pre-School Workbook
This is a very nicely spaced out colorful workbook incorporating a variety of pre-writing and beginning writing activities at a great price.
Quality Writing Paper
Quick and Neat Writing Pad
Visual handwriting paper for consistent spacing and letter size.
Handwriting Improvement Journal
Visual guides on both sides of the page to start the journey into creative writing.
Pacon Multi-Sensory Raised Ruled Handwriting Tablet
Much better than the newspaper-thick paper! Raised lines. Pencil lines can be erased without shredding the paper.
Writing Paper with Lines
Good old paper with line guides. We go through a lot!
